Få dager etter at terrorhandlingene fant sted i Oslo og på Utøya mottok Kirkens Nødhjelp et kondolansebrev fra World Council of Religions i Pakistan. Dette er en av Kirkens Nødhjelps mangeårige partnere i Pakistan og er et nettverk av religiøse ledere som jobber for interreligiøs dialog og fred.
– Det er sterkt å få medfølelse fra en som har levd med terrorangrep i sitt land i mange år, sier Atle Sommerfeldt, generalsekretær i Kirkens Nødhjelp. - Derfor vil vi dele dette med flere.
World Council of Religions Pakistan jobber kontinuerlig på tvers av religiøse skiller for å fremme fredelig samhandling og forståelse mellom religionene, og spiller en viktig rolle i kampen mot religiøse konflikter i landet.
Det er styreformann Maulana Muhammad Hanif Jalandhry som overbringer kondolansen på vegne av sin organisasjon. – Dette er en sentral islamsk leder som nå gir vitnesbyrd om at ekstremisme må overvinnes i alle religioner, sier Sommerfeldt.

I take this opportunity to condemn, and repudiate the recent act of utter violence in Oslo and the island resort. This was a sheer act of terrorism, intolerance and fanaticism. The loss of life and property in your peaceful country has really created a horrendous situation for you and other peace loving people around the world. I am grieved and highly pained by this incident, but I am not dismayed as the world still has lot of right thinking, peaceful, tolerant and accommodating people.
There are always bad elements in every society, every religion and every class and terrorism can not be classified. There is a need for understanding the idiosyncrasies, peculiarities and taboos of every culture, religion and society and create tolerance and impunity among people. I may disagree with every word you say and dislike every rightful act you perform but I should support your right to say it and do it.
Please accept my heart felt sympathies. I and my people stand with you in this hour of trial and tribulation.
